Remand fostering is a specialist role where a foster carer provides an alternative to custodial care for a young person while they wait for a court hearing in relation to an alleged offence. The young person may have additional support needs (that could have contributed to any alleged offence) such as poor mental health, substance misuse or addiction, or experience of bullying or neglect. They may also have strict bail conditions that the foster carer will need to help them adhere to.

Remand foster carers can provide stability, a positive role model and a non-judgmental approach that can make a real difference at what can be a very difficult and frightening time in the young person’s life and for their future.
